Over 10,000 households in Banki town have received 30, 000 bags of assorted foodstuff from the Borno State Government as palliatives in .
The items distributed are10,000 bags of 25kg of rice, 10,000 bags of 25kg of maize, and 10,000 bags of 10kg of beans to ten thousand households.
The Borno State governor Babagana Umara Zulluml was represented by the Chairman of Banki Town Reconstruction Committee, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, who led the palliatives distribution team to Banki town of Bama LGA while flagging-off the distribution alongside Chairman Bama LGA , Alh. Grema Terab and the District Head of Banki. Alh. Baba Shehu Arjinoma,
He appreciated the people of Banki for their resilience and patience .
The palliatives distribution team also include members of Borno State MCRP- AF team comprising Hon. Baba Zannah Abdulkarim, Dr. Ali Umar Bashir among others.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their happiness and joy for the gesture while appreciating the governor for the timely intervention to cushion their hardships especially during the raining season, when grains and seeds are being planted by farmers in large quantity resulting in scarcity of food and hike in prices of foodstuff in the market.
Governor Zulum further assured the people of Banki border town that the Banki famous market will soon be reopened and additional Government Secondary School would be established in Banki town to cater for the school age children, who are out-of-school and on the street begging.
The Chairman Bamq LGC, who is also a member of the palliatives team , Hon. Grema Terab has appealed to the MCRP team to explore the possibility of reopening the Banki famous Livestock Market to boost agricultural production and growth in the area as well as commercial and socio -economic activities of the region.
Zulum shares food to 2,000 households in Mafoni
Meanwhile, the governor on Monday, had supervised the distribution of food palliative to over 2,000 households in Mafoni ward of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council.
The distribution which aims at cushioning the effects of fuel subsidy removal took place at the premises of Mohammed Goni College of Legal and Islamic Studies (MOGCOLIS) where benefitting households received two bags of rice and beans.
Zulum explained that 2,000 households were drawn from 27 wards comprising of 15 from Maiduguri Metropolis and 12 from Jere Local Government Area.
A combined total of 54,000 bags of rice and 54,000 bags of beans were meant for distribution across the two Local Government Areas, targeting their most vulnerable residents.
Zulum’s administration has been actively seeking strategies to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices on the grassroots population, ensuring that essential foods and services remain accessible to vulnerable people.
