The Leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliates unions in Kano State have expressed their appreciation to the Gov.Abdullahi Umar Ganduje over the recent assent to the amendment of State Pension and Gratuity Law 2006 which provides for the elongation of retirement age to 65yrs.
This was contained in a statement signed by Hassan Musa Fagge, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Kano State and made available to newsmen, Wednesday.
Also the Congress thanked the governor for increasing the length of service to 40yrs for all civil servants in the State with effect from the third(3rd) of February this year.
The appreciation was presented by the Overseeing Chairman of the Kano NLC Branch, Comrade Ado Salisu Riruwai to Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje on Wednesday during a thank you visit at the Coronation Hall, Government House Kano.
He said as the election draws nearer we are optimistic that you would maintain and sustain the worker friendly antecedents and disposition that you had built over the years, so that workers would continue to remember you as the best Governor who brought the best policies and programmes that positively touched the lives of the citizens.
The Chairman further noted that the Congress also appreciates the State Government’s effort for lifting the embargo on employments and replacement which is also key to addressing the gap between service exit and payment of retirement benefits to retired civil servants in the State.
He however urges the workers to reciprocate the gesture by being more productive and committed in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities.
Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje represented by his deputy and APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna in his response assures that, Kano State Government would do more towards improving the welfare of the workers.
He also commended the NLC for appreciating the efforts of the State Government for approving the elongation of the retirement age and years of service for workers.
In his remarks the State Head of Service, Alh. Usman Bala Muhammad thanked the NLC leadership for the Industrial peace and harmony enjoyed between them and the Kano Government.
