The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Rivers State has picked Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, All Progressives Congress, APC for the 2023 presidential elections dumping Alhaji Atiku Abubakar
This was reportedly disclosed by Hon. Samuel Nwanosike, the chairman of the Ikwerre Local Government Area and a steadfast ally of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.
Recall that Atiku had lost the support of the G-5 governors lead by Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike because he refused to persuade Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP National Chairman, to step down and enable a Southerner to fill the position.
The five disgruntled governors have not yet decided on a candidate to support in the presidential election scheduled for next month.
It was reported that supporters of Governor Wike held multiple meetings to discuss the matter and came to the firm decision to support Tinubu fiercely throughout the state.
The Sunday Sun reported Nwanosike saying that the Rivers State PDP had chosen a candidate and that the state’s elders and opinion leaders had chosen to support Tinubu instead of Atiku due to the “unfairness and political imbalance” that Atiku, in his words, was allegedly promoting.
“With this terrible turn of events, it is evident that Atiku is not the genuine unifying force we had believed him to be. We want to be very clear that on this matter, we support our leader Nyesom Wike,” he stated.
