The governors of the five South East states of Enugu, Abia, Imo, Anambra and Ebonyi have disowned Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections.

The decision was arrived at during a meeting in Enugu, capital of Enugu State. In attendence were Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state, Anambra state Deputy Governor, Onyeka Ebeziem and the Deputy Governor of Imo state, Placid Njoku.

The governors debunked a statement credited to Mr. Peter Obi that the South East Governors were the ones who formed the Eastern Security Network.

The Governors also used the opportunity to add that they never did so, saying that what they formed was the Ebubeagu and the Forest Guards.

But in order to scale up efforts in addressing the heightened in security in the South East, the Governors have reached an agreement to form a joint security patrol which they would also fund. The security patrol would be kicking off on Decembe to curb the continuous rising insecurity in the zone.

The Governors further said that they would assist the flood victims of 2022 as they also asked the Federal Government to assist them in returning back the displaced persons to their homes.
