Preparations for upgrading Daura General Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre have begun in earnest.
Already a team of officials from the Federal Ministry of Health were in Daura on Thursday to assess facilities at the General Hospital, inspected a 50-hectare virgin land donated by the Katsina State government to meet part of the requirements for the upgrade of the hospital.
The team was lead by Alhaji Hassan Sallau, Director, Human Resource Management at Federal Ministry of Health. The assessment was in three areas of infrastructure, equipment and human resources.
Alh Hassan noted that the premises of the General Hospital cannot accommodate the needed structures required to transform it to a Federal Medical Centre, hence the need for additional land.
He said that the Federal Ministry of Health was ready to embark on the project as soon as the required process of handing and taking over of the land was completed.
Recently, the Federal Medical Center in Katsina was converted
to Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Teaching Hospital.
The team was hosted by the Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Alhaji Muntari Lawal, on behalf of Governor Aminu Bello Masari.
Alhaji Muntari Lawal directed the State Ministry of Health to liaise with the Ministry of Lands and Survey to immediately start the demarcation of the land in Daura as well as the process of issuance of Certificate of Occupancy to the Federal Ministry of Health.
