Kano State Government has ordered the stoppage of salaries of over 10,000 state workers

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has ordered the Accountant General to stop the salaries of 10,800 workers employed by his predecessor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

This was announced to newsmen by Kano State Accountant General, Abdulkadir Abdusalam  in Kano on Monday saying that the governor had instructed his office to remove the employees from the state’s payroll.

He declared that his office will conduct an investigation to determine the validity of their engagement and processes to get rid of anyone who had been improperly hired.

Abdulsalam added that all Local Government employees who were turned into state employees by the previous administration will still be paid on a Local Government level.

Recall that before it took over, the new administration had accused Ganduje’s government of illegally employing over 10,000 workers when it was about to leave office

However, he instructed them to keep working for the MDAs in their new state until the probe was over.

The state’s employees and pensioners will no longer be subject to needless deductions from their pay, as they did under the previous administration, the Accountant General also assured.

He added that more than 60,000 secondary school pupils have now had their National Examinations Council (NECO) fees covered by the state.

He stated that the link for the exam body would soon be accessible to the recipients.
