Sen Akume appointed SGF

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed George Akume as the Secretary  to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Friday. His appointment has put yo rest the agitation for post to go to the North West Zone.

The appointment was one of the key positions in running the affairs of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Also appointed was Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the House of Representatives ad the Chief of Staff to the president

Akume was born on 27th December 1953 and hails from Wannune Tarka Council Area of Benue State.

He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, in 1978. He also obtained a Master’s degree in Industrial and Labour Relations (MLR) from the same university in 1986.

From May 1999 to May 2007, Akume served as the governor of Benue State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was the first governor of Benue State to serve two consecutive terms.

Akume was elected as a senator representing Benue North West Senatorial District under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). From June 2011 until June 2015, he served as the Senate’s Minority Leader.

During his brief tenure in the Red Chamber, the former governor served as chairman of the Senate Committee on the Army.

But Akume lost his bid to return to the senate by Senator Orke Jev of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019.He was appointed  as the minister of special obligations and intergovernmental affairs on August 21, 2019
