Africa Democratic Congress, ADC presidential candidate and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has received a rousing welcome from supporters in Sokoto State ahead of the formal flag-off of his presidential campaign.
Atiku expressed gratitude to the people of Sokoto for the reception, describing the state as a historic centre of faith, scholarship and leadership.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, the presidential candidate said his campaign was driven by the need to address the economic hardship, insecurity and broken promises confronting Nigerians.
He promised to tackle insecurity across the country, restore hope to young Nigerians and make life more affordable, arguing that Nigerians deserved a change in leadership and a government capable of delivering on its promises.
“Sokoto, I am here! I am deeply grateful for the rousing welcome as I formally launch my campaign for the presidency from this historic seat of faith, scholarship, and leadership,” he wrote.
The former vice president further declared that Nigerians had reached a point where they must make a choice about the country’s future, insisting that his administration would prioritise security, economic recovery and opportunities for young people.
“Nigerians are tired of hunger, fear, and broken promises. Today, they have a choice, a plan, and a leader ready to deliver,” Atiku stated.
He added that the journey to what he described as rescuing Nigeria would begin in Sokoto, calling on his supporters and Nigerians to unite behind his presidential ambition.
“The journey to rescue Nigeria begins here. Together, we will win,” he added.
Atiku’s campaign appearance in Sokoto marks a significant step in his efforts to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with economic hardship, insecurity and the rising cost of living featuring prominently in his campaign message.
