.The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Alumni Association, Katsina State branch, has appointed Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, the Kanwan Katsna, District Head of Ketare, as Chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT).
The appointment was contained in an official letter signed by the State Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Bashir Bala Zango.
Other members of the Board of Trustees include the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar; retired Federal Permanent Secretary, Hajia Binta Ayi Ibrahim; Special Adviser, Department of Local Government Inspectorate, Alhaji Lawal Rufa’i Safana; environmental engineer and consultant, Engineer Bala Abdullahi Maimaje; and Alhaji Ibrahim Daku, a retired Director of Security in the Katsina State Governor’s Office, who will serve as Secretary to the Board.
According to the statement, the decision by the Executive Committee and the entire membership of the Association to confer the leadership role on the monarch was made in accordance with the provisions of the Association’s Constitution.
The leadership of the Alumni Association said the appointment reflects its profound confidence in Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara’s integrity, experience, wisdom and long-standing commitment to the development of the Association, Katsina State and Nigeria at large.
The Association further noted that, as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, the Kanwan Katsina is expected to play a pivotal role in providing strategic guidance, institutional memory and counsel towards advancing the growth, unity, credibility and long-term sustainability of the Katsina State Branch.
While congratulating the Kanwan Katsina on what it described as a well-deserved recognition, the Association expressed optimism that his leadership, experience and stature would strengthen stakeholder engagement and further inspire commitment to the ideals and values of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he graduated with a degree in Political Science in 1981.
Following his graduation, he proceeded to the then Bendel State for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), where he served as an Assistant Secretary at Oshimili Local Government Area, Asaba.
He later joined the Nigeria Customs Service, where he served for 35 years before retiring from active service.
Following his retirement, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara has continued to contribute to the development of his community and the wider society, particularly through his traditional leadership role as the Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
