The Kaduna State University Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUUvhas suspended its strike action with effect from 12:01 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, 18th September, 2026.
This followed the approval by the Kaduna State Government for the implementation and domestication of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement for academic staff of the university, beginning from October 2026.
This is contained in a press statement signed by the Chairman of the union, Comrade Abubakar Abdullahi and the Secretary Comrade Silas Amos Bakut issued to Journalists after its congress meeting in Kaduna.
The union said the University Governing Council and Management had also approved the commencement of payment of the accrued nine-month arrears.
The Chairman, Comrade Abubakar Abdullahi explained that the Congress, which met on Thursday, 17th September, unanimously accepted the approvals by the government and the university authorities and consequently resolved to suspend the strike.
It described the developments as significant steps towards restoring stability and industrial harmony in the university, while expressing appreciation to the Kaduna State Government, the Governing Council and the university management for their commitment to resolving the issues.
The union also commended the government negotiation team for its dedication and prompt attention to the matter, as well as the university management for providing information, documents and support that contributed to resolving the dispute.
It further commended the government and university management for allowing the union to follow its established internal procedures during the dispute, saying this demonstrated respect for due process and constructive industrial relations.
The union said it looks forward to welcoming students back to the classrooms as soon as possible and thanked all stakeholders and members of the public for their patience and support during the crisis.
