As part of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced the deployment of first batch of its troops to Guinea-Bissau.
This is contained in a statement by the Nigerian Air force,NAF saying the initial contingent comprises 86 personnel, including 12 officers and 74 soldiers, who departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja aboard a NAF C-130 aircraft.
The Air Force said additional personnel assigned to the mission would be transported in a subsequent flight.
Before their departure, the troops were formally addressed at the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre in Abuja, where they were urged to uphold discipline, professionalism and integrity while representing Nigeria during the mission.
According to the NAF, the deployment demonstrates the operational coordination among Nigeria’s armed forces and the Air Force’s capability to transport troops and equipment for both domestic and international security operations.
The deployment also underscores Nigeria’s continued commitment to ECOWAS peace support operations and its role in promoting stability, regional cooperation and security across West Africa.
