The Government of Katsina State has been urged to take immediate measures to release Dr Bashir Kurfi unconditionally in the interests of peace and security of the State.
The call was made by Katsina State Concerns Elders in a release signed by Hon. Hamisu Gambo, Dan Lawal, Katsina and others, advising that the State Government should focus more on the arrest and prosecution of bandits and not citizens who are working tirelessly to bring the menace of banditry in the State to an end.
“Among such efforts is the mobilisation of various stakeholders, in and outside the state. Along with other stakeholders Dr. Bashir has been liaising with relevant security organisations providing information relating to the activities of bandits and other criminals.
“The arrest and detention of Dr. Bashir Usman Kurfi is bound to send wrong signals to all stakeholders, who are making strenuous efforts in helping to contain the intractable problems of insecurity in Katsina State and Nigeria in general. “

Recalled that Dr Bashir Kurfi alleged that the Katsina State Government has sponsored sone bandits leaders for 2026 Hajj but the Government denies the allegations.
The Nigeria police invited Dr Kurfi for questioning and subsquently arraigned hin in court. The court orderrd the police to keep jim in custody tilo Monday.
