The Federal Government of Nigeria has refuted reports  alleging that it is considering scrapping the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), describing the claims as false and misleading.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, sayinv neither it nor the National Assembly was considering any move to abolish the examination body.

The Ministry clarified that it had not initiated any bill before the National Assembly seeking the dissolution of NBAIS, nor had it proposed, endorsed, or supported any policy aimed at undermining the board’s statutory functions.

According to the statement, the misinformation has the potential to create unnecessary anxiety among students, parents, teachers, religious organisations, and other stakeholders within the education sector.

The Ministry reiterated that NBAIS remains a legally recognised examination and certification body operating within Nigeria’s educational framework and continues to enjoy the support of the Federal Government.

It further stressed that the government remains committed to supporting all duly established educational institutions and examination bodies in line with existing laws, national education policies, and the principles of inclusiveness, equity, and equal opportunity.

The Ministry urged members of the public to disregard the publication and avoid spreading unverified information capable of misleading citizens or eroding public confidence in government institutions.

It also advised stakeholders to rely only on official communications from the Federal Ministry of Education and other authorised government channels for accurate information regarding education policies, programmes, and reforms.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to promoting quality education, national unity, and constructive engagement with stakeholders in advancing the nation’s educational goals.
