Communities in Kafur town, the headquarters of Kafur Local Government Council in Katsina State Are experiencing severe water shortage.
Kafur is an ancient settlement founded by migrants from Makaurachi in the early 19th century.
Adequate source of water is one of the attractions considered by the migrants to settled down in the area for their livelihood. Kafur is surrounded with a natural river known as Kafur from which it derived its name.
However, the river dried up, with no water except during the rainy season. This causes suffering to the residents, while Government works hard to address the situation, especially during the tenure of Rt. Hon Aminu Bello Masari while he was a commissioner of works in 1992 as well as governor of Katsina State by constructing solar pump boreholes with overhead tanks for adequate supply of water at Masari and Kafur respectively.
But the water shortage persist as men and women are seen with different containers at early hours searching for water at either mono pumps, motorized boreholes and even open wells for domestic purposes.
Whien contacted, the chairman water supply committee of Kafur Alhaji Badaru Adamu appealed to the state government under the able leadership of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda m to come to their aid by upgrading and extension of the existing solar pumps as well as construction of additional ones so as to supply adequate water for the people in the community. This, he said will alleviate the water hardship.
In the same vein, people in the community stressed the need for the member, representing Malumfashi/Kafur Federal Constituency, Hon. Aminu Ibrahim Kafur to assist them with three summers to enable them standardize three boreholes which will ease the water shortage in the area.
