The Kaduna Central Senatorial District in Kaduna State is one of the most cosmopolitan senatorial districts in Nigeria. It was the seat of power of Northern Nigeria and headquarters of the Kaduna Mafita which determined power equation even before Nigeria’s independence, and, probably till today.
By virture of this historical political standing, Kaduna Central Senatorial District deserves to have a vibrant representation at the Nigeria’s National Assembly, a representative that is strong in character and has clear understanding of the Constituency and it’s constituents, as well as the capacity to voice the voices of the district, Kaduna State and Nigeria as member of the commity of nations at the global arena.
So when Shettima Yarima declared interest in seeking to contest the seat of Kaduna Central District under the All Progressives Congress, APC in the build up to the 2027 election, hope had risen, especially among the youth. This might not be unconnected with Shettima’s standing when it comes to defending the interests of the Nigerian youth in particular, but especially the north.
Though Yarima needs no introduction, it’s important to understand that he is an activist, pro-democracy advocate, and influential youth leader. As the President-General of the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), a premier socio-political organization dedicated to championing the interests of Northern Nigerian youth, he emerged as a vocal and courageous advocate for good governance, national unity, human rights, and social justice.
His activism gained prominence during Nigeria’s struggle for democratic consolidation, which is characterized by his unwavering opposition to policies detrimental to citizens welfare
His activism might be due his interest in justice and fair play in leadership coupled with his academic training. Shettima holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and Master’s degree in Conflict, Peace, and Strategic Studies (MCPSS) and currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Legislative Studies at the University of Abuja.
“I sincerely appreciate the overwhelming support, encouragement, and confidence reposed in me by party members, stakeholders, supporters, and even non-party members who believed in my vision and aspiration. Your solidarity and goodwill remain deeply appreciated and will never be taken for granted.
“I call on all my supporters and associates to remain calm, peaceful, and fully committed to supporting all candidates that emerge under the platform of our great party. The unity and success of the APC must remain our collective priority.
“At this critical moment, I also strongly advocate for genuine reconciliation among all aggrieved members to strengthen our party and ensure lasting peace, cohesion, and progress within our ranks.
“.Let me also reiterate that my support for the administration and leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani remains sacrosanct and unwavering.
“Together, we shall continue to work for the peace, unity, and development of Kaduna State and Nigeria.”
The decision must have been a hard one, especially with a very strong support base, the resources committed and the goodwill from constituents and other well wishes
Nonetheless, the sacrifice distinguished the uncommon commonsense, uncommon courage and strategic futur investment exhibited by Yarima. The will to sacrifice your desire for public good is what is lacking among Nigeria. I believe Yarima has the vision, the will and capacity to provide credible leadership in our match to greatness.
