Kano Court sentences man to death by hanging

A man, Abdulaziz Umar has been sentences to death by changing after finding him guilty of killing one Mubarak Salisu.

Umar, a resident of Fagge Quarters in Kano was convicted on two charges: armed robbery and culpable homicide.
Delivering judgment, the High Court judge, Justice Zuwaira Yusuf held that the prosecution had successfully proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
“I hereby sentence the convict to life imprisonment for robbery and to death by hanging for culpable homicide until he is certified dead,” she said.
Earlier, the prosecution lawyer, Aisha Salisu, told the court that the incident occurred on October 1, 2020, at Race Course in Badawa Layout, Kano.
She explained that on that day, Umar stabbed Salisu in the stomach and hand with a sharp knife during an attack at Independence Day celebrations, leading to his death.
The attacker also stole the victim’s Samsung phone.
The prosecution called five witnesses and tendered evidence to support the case against the defendant.
However, Umar denied committing the crime.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 298 and 221 of the Penal Code.
