Kaduna reaffirms commitment to building safe, inclusive  society

The Kaduna state government has reaffirmed its commitment to building a safe, inclusive and prosperous society through sustained investments in gender equality, social inclusion, child protection services and human capital development.

The commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Rabi Salisu announced this at a press conference held at the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalist, NUJ  in Kaduna.

Dr Rabi said the state has implemented landmark reforms that position Kaduna as a national leader in advancing the rights and well-being of women, children, youth and vulnerable groups.

On gender equality the commissioner emphasize that the state has domesticated and operationalized key gender related laws including the violence against person’s prohibition (VAPP )law and the gender equality and social inclusion, GESI policy, Kaduna State gender affirmative procurement policy, Kaduna state Action Plan on women, peace and security and Kaduna state Disability law.

She said the state has strengthened the response to Gender Based Violence through the four Sexual Assault Referral centres (SARCS) functional GBV Toll-free Hotlines and an active (GBV) Technical working Group Coordinating platform.

She added that  women’s economic empowerment has received significant support through targeted grants of N5 billion  skills training, free agricultural inputs for women small holder farmers and enterprise funding support for women led businesses.

On promoting social inclusion she said the state has taken bold steps to ensure no group is left behind, the disability affairs board is fully operational, driving the implementation of the Kaduna Disability law and enhancing access to services for person’s with Disabilities.

Dr Rabi said the Kaduna state government remains committed to deepering partnerships with development partners, civil society organizations and community structures to further strengthened gender equality, child protection and inclusive growth.
