Bring farmers closer to you, Agric Minister urges commissioners

Commissioners of Agriculture have been urged to bring farmers close to them with a view to supporting them in whatever possible to boost food production and food security in Nigeria.

The charge was given by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, represented by permanent secretary Mercus Ogunbiyi at the 47 National Council of Agriculture and Food Security, heldĀ  in Kaduna.
He urged participants to use the occasion as an avenue for transforming agriculture in the country.
He expressed optimism that such meetings on agriculture would further sharpen the focus of Nigerian farmers, believing that Nigerian farmers, through the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would achieve a lot in improving their farming business.

In his remark the Kaduna State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ahaji Murtala Dabo said theĀ  state was highly impressed with the opportunity given to host this years meeting.

Alhaji Dabo contended that the administration of Governor Uba Sani had accorded priority to agricultural development through provision of various agricultural inputs to farmers at subsidized price. He hoped that at the end of the meeting various solutions on agricultural problems would be preferred.

The program officer , Livestock Development pastoralism and trashumine of the ECOWAS commission, Dr Jimmy John Mark equally appreciated the 47 Regular meeting and commended Nigeria for improvement in rice production and other agricultural produce, noting that in the past the country relied on rice importation, but now things have changed for the better as the country can afford to produce for local and other nations consumption.

Dr Jimmy reaffirmed the commitment of ECOWAS to continue to assist farmers in Africa.

A representative of women farmers Mrs Rose Mary Ekpion enjoined them not to relent in pursuance of effective Agricultural programes for enhanced production.she appealed to weathy Nigerians to adquately invest in Agriculture and support youths participation in Agricultural activities.
