There are reports of crisis between the Kano State Governir, Abba Kabir Yusuf and the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori over alleged insubordination and undermining the governor’s authority as the state’s Chief Security Officer.
The governor therefore called for the immediate removal of the state’s Commissioner of Police,
Thee Governor made the call on Wednesday, October 1, during an event to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary held at the Kofar Mata Stadium in Kano metropolis.
The displeased governor alleged that policemen under CP Bakori’s command withdrew from providing security at the ceremony despite what he described as clear instructions he personally issued to the commissioner.
“The Commissioner of Police has embarrassed us by his conduct. His action is unprofessional, unethical, and contrary to what is expected of a security chief on such a historic day for the people of Kano and indeed for Nigeria as a whole,” Yusuf declared.
Yusuf maintained that CP Bakori’s behaviour was unacceptable and posed a challenge to the effective coordination of security in the state.
“On behalf of myself as Chief Security Officer, and on behalf of the good people of Kano State, I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori today,” the governor insisted.
The governor’s outburst cast a shadow over the Kano Independence Day celebrations, which had drawn large crowds to the stadium.
However, neither the police command nor federal authorities had issued an official response to the governor’s demand as of the time of filing this report, Naija News understands.
