In Katsina: Local Government Councils financial autonomy commences

The Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has resolved that henceforth the monthly statutory allocations for local government councils will effectively be released to them.

To that effect, the remaining allocated funds for the month of August meant for local councils will also be disburse to them.

Special Adviser Local Government Inspectorate, Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana alongside the State Local Government Auditor General Alhaji Kabir Shu’aibu disclosed this, Monday during a meeting with Heads of Local Government Administration and Treasurers of the 34 LGAs held at the Conference Hall of the State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Katsina.

Following this development, Hon. Lawal Safana said the meeting was convened to rub minds and to remind the officers of their statutory functions as custodians of local councils funds.

He however charged them that being signatories to Funds and Treasury bills of their respective LGAs, they must ensure due process and documentation before releasing any fund from the Treasury, derailing from such will be regarded as fraudulent.

Hon. Safana  explained that the meeting will also deliberate on issues related to preparations of the 2026 Budget.

He therefore reaffirmed the state government’s commitment towards ensuring objectivity to local government administration.
