In a move to demonstrate commitment to fairness and accountability. the Kaduna State Government has announced the commencement of distribution of cheque to individuals who purchased staff quarters at three legacy secondary schools in the state.
The institutions are Queen Amina College, Kaduna; Alhuda-Huda College, Zaria; and Government Commercial College, Zaria, following the revocation of the sales.
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, AbdulKadir Mu’azu Meyere, on Saturday said beneficiaries are expected to begin collecting their cheques from Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Hassan Usman Katsina House, Kawo.
The statement reads in part, “In fulfilment of its promise to refund those who bought houses at Queen Amina College Kaduna, Alhuda-Huda College Zaria, and Government Commercial College Zaria, Kaduna State Government will commence payment on Monday, 7th July, 2025.
“Kaduna State Government is hereby notifying beneficiaries that their cheques will be ready for collection at the Secretariat of the Sale of Non-Essential Government Houses, Hassan Usman Katsina House, Kawo, upon presenting the following documents: Evidence of payment; a valid means of identification (voter’s card, national ID card, etc); Bank details (bank name, account number, and BVN slip); A recent bank statement; two passport photographs.”
“Governor Uba Sani had assured affected individuals that they would not lose their hard-earned money, and this refund fulfills that pledge,” the statement added.
PUNCH Online had reported that Sani in April, ordered the reversal of the property transactions, citing overriding public interest as the justification for reclaiming the structures located within educational institutions.
The governor had pledged that the state would make refunds to all legitimate buyers.

In an earlier statement issued on April 22, 2025, the Kaduna State Government had hinted at the impending refunds.
It clarified that the original decision to reclaim the houses was not aimed at witch-hunting anyone but was part of broader reforms in the education sector.
“The decision was taken in good faith and in the best interest of the people of Kaduna State.
“The presence of private residences within school premises poses a security threat and distracts from the core mandate of those institutions,” Dr Meyere had said.
