Ex chairman of Bank of China sentenced to death

 The Jinan Intermediate People’s Court in Shandong Province on November 26, 2024 sentenced the former Chairman of the Bank of China, Liu Liange to death with a two-year reprieve.

Liu was convicted on charges of accepting substantial bribes and authorizing illegal loans. According to the court, he accepted bribes totaling 121 million yuan (approximately $16.7 million).

Additionally, Liu approved illegal loans amounting to 3.32 billion yuan, resulting in financial losses exceeding 190 million yuan.

The court further ruled that all of Liu’s personal assets would be confiscated, and he would face a lifetime deprivation of political rights.

This sentencing highlights China’s ongoing efforts to crack down on corruption within its financial sector.
