Farmers – Fulani: Trouble brews in Kebbi

Fulani communities of Aljannare District in Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, have sent a passionate appeal to Governor Nasir Idris and the Emir of Gwandu, Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, to intervene over encroachment of Grazing Reserves by farmers at Gungun Diko, Nelba and Gungun Oro to avoid Fulani/Farmers clash in the area.

Speaking to journalists, some of the community leaders, Ladan Golima, Jabbi Dangarso and Malam Abubakar Kinasa shortly after their Stakeholders meeting of the Fulani communities in Aljannare Some Community Leaders;  Malam Abubakar Kinasa the Chief Imam of Gungun Dikko Village, Ladan Golima and Jabbi Dangarso  disclosed that for over eighty years, the grazing reserves that belongs to the Fulani communities used to accommodate over one million animals are now being encroached by farmers.

According to them, the communities have a supporting documents from the relevant authorities for allocating the land to serve as grazing reserves.

They added that, Fulani and Hausa communities in Aljannare district are living peacefully and there is need to maintain as they demanded for their rights.

The leaders emphasised that, only the intervention of the government would solve the looming clash between Fulani and farmers as they are ready to go back to their grazing reserves after the rainy season.

The Chairman, Miyatti Allah Fulani Association, Suru Local Government Area, Usman Aliyu Masama, stated that, the leadership is making all effort to solve the problem that might arise between Fulani and farmers in the area, testifying that, the grazing reserves belongs to the Fulani for decades.

He noted that last two years, there was a clash between Fulani and farmers in the area over the grazing reserves that resulted in loss of many lives and animals which should be avoided by government intervention.
