Kankia local government council in Katsina State has indicated its readiness to commence the second phase of projects implementation once approved by the state Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda.
Chairman of the local council Alhaji Musa Maikudi Kankia gave the indication when the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Professor Badamasi Lawal Charanchi visited the area for the second time on an inspection of projects executed by the local council under the first phase of the programme.
Shortly after conducting the Commissioner round the projects, the Director of Administration and Finance of the local government Alhaji Musa Kallah who stood for the Chairman said the Council is now expecting disbursement of funds to commence the second phase as it had already submitted proposal to that effect.
He commended Governor Dikko Radda and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Professor Badamasi Lawal Charanchi for remaining committed toward reviving the image of the local councils in the state and the Chairman for his steadfastness in making the projects a reality.
Commenting on the projects inspected, the Commissioner represented by the Director Works, Engineer Umar Faruk Abdullahi Shinkafi registered his satisfaction on the quality of projects so far completed.
He noticed that 99% of local councils Chairmen that executed projects in the first phase have already completed the projects approved for them and even contributed their quarter for exceeding the funds already disbursed to them.
The Commissioner said the first time of his visit to Kankia LG on projects inspection, the execution of the Projects had already exceeded 60% completion, which deserved commendation.
He therefore assured that within this week or next, the local councils will receive 50% of funds for the commencement of the second phase of projects implementation, adding that Governor Dikko Radda is committed to ensure the execution of viable projects that positively touch the lives of the common man and make local government areas of the state places of attraction.
The completed projects inspected include 150 Metre drainage at Sabuwar Abuja, 3,755 M long tapping of water from the main Water Center directly to the main Tank that supplied Kankia town with portable drinking water at the cost of over N12M and provision of 50 number of Solar Powered Street Lights across strategic locations in Kankia town.
