A Committee for the total rehabilitation of most dilapidated primary schools across the state has conducted its inaugural meeting on Wednesday.
Shortly after the meeting at the Conference Hall of the Katsina State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, MLGCA, Chairman of the Committee who is also the Special Adviser Local Government Inspectorate, Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana said the Committee which was set up by the Katsina State Executive Council has been mandated to identify ten most dilapidated primary schools in each of the 34 local government areas of the state.
The Committee was also expected to design the process by which such schools would be rehabilitated and brought back to its normal state for good learning environment.
Hon. Lawal Safana further stated that all the processes for which the exercise will kick start have been discussed.
“After identifying the schools, a condition survey will be effected, then make up the bills then get to the actual rehabilitation works”. He said.
“All the modalities that we need have now been discussed in the meeting and in the next meeting is meant to begin receiving the reports
that we have asked to be given and then analyse them and get started”. He added.
Hon. Safana however pointed out that the setting up of the Committee was like a state of emergency the state government declared on the rehabilitation of dilapidated primary schools because of the importance attached to primary education and education itself all over the state.
He therefore stressed the need for the Committee members to fastrack the exercise with vigour and ensure quality job by rehabilitating the affected primary schools for good.
Other members of the Committee include Executive Secretary SUBEB, representative from the Office of the State Accountant General, representative from the State Infrastructural Development, State Coordinator CSP, and representative from the Office of the SGS to serve as Secretary.
