REVENUE: Katsina abolishes cash payment

281

The Government of Katsina State has abolished cash payments for its services in line with with the provisions of the Katsina State Revenue Administration (Codification and Consolidation) Law of 2021, as amended in 2023

This reform is aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency in revenue collection.

Following this directive, the Katsina State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) has commenced the implementation process. As part of the initiative, Interswitch and United Bank for Africa (UBA) have conducted a “train-the-trainers” program for the service’s staff on the effective use of the payment terminals that will drive the project.

The training was facilitated by Mr. Kamaludden Yahya, a representative of Interswitch. Already, UBA and Interswitch have provided Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals for the project, which will be deployed across all revenue-generating Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state.

According to the Executive Director of Revenue Operations, Alhaji Almustapha Bishir Rafindadi, under this arrangement, UBA will fund the terminals. This differs from the informal sector revenue drive initiative, where Access Bank is tasked with opening wallets for vendors.
