Funtua Senatorial District in Katsina State has  formally called for the creation of Karadua State from the  present Katsina State.

The proposed Karadua State comprises of 11 local government areas of Funtua, Malumfashi, Kafur Kankara, Matazu, Musawa, Bakiri, Danja, Faskari, Dandume and Sabuwa

The demand was made during the North-West Zonal Public Hearing on Constitutional Review held in Kaduna, Saturday..

The two-day hearing, billed for Saturday and Sunday, 12th and 13th July 2025, at the General Hassan Usman Katsina House, brought together stakeholders from Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, and Jigawa States (Zone A). It was organised by the House of Representatives Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), chaired by Rt. Hon. Madaki Aliyu Sani, Deputy Minority Leader in the House.

The Funtua delegation, under the Movement for the Creation of Karadua State, was led by retired Supreme Court Justice Amiru Sanusi. They submitted a formal memorandum requesting the new state be carved out of Katsina, citing improved governance and bringing government presence.

Justice Aminu Sanusi said the demand is a constitutional step toward regional development and

not due to dissatisfaction with Katsina State.

“We are not protesting against Katsina. We are only exercising our constitutional right to demand state creation for better administration. Our neighbours in Kano and Jigawa have made similar demands. It’s not a crime—it’s progress,” he stated.

The delegation included lawmakers, academics, and community leaders such as Dr. Bashir Usman Ruwan Godiya, who argued that Karadua already comprises 11 local government areas and would need 12 additional ones to reach 23 in total.

“We have the population, fertile land, and agricultural resources needed to support a viable state,” Dr. Ruwan Godiya noted.

Also speaking, Alhaji Usman Maska, Chairman of Katsina State Local Government Service Commission, likened the proposed Karadua State to an “inner room within the same house,” saying both Katsina and the proposed state would continue working together for mutual development.

The hearing drew participation from top officials, including deputy governors from Kano and Kaduna, and the Katsina State Commissioner for Justice, who represented the Governor.

Meanwhile, a similar demand was presented by a group from the Daura zone of Katsina State, who called for the creation of Bayajidda State.

The Zone A public hearing provided an opportunity for citizens and groups across the region to air their views on constitutional amendments, with state creation emerging as one of the most prominent themes, particularly in the North-West
