Kachia Local Government Council has approved a revolving fund for ginger farmers to improve the economy of residents of the local government.

This was announced by the Kachia Council chairman, Dr Manzo Maigari on his Facebook wall, Friday.

The first set of beneficiaries received ginger seeds free of charge. They are expected to contribute the exact quantity of ginger seeds they received at harvest to the pool, so that another group of farmers can benefit next season.

Beyond this, the LGA will support farmers with climate-smart agricultural innovations that have proven effective against the devastating ginger epidemic. This epidemic disrupted and crippled the economy of Kachia LGA and the livelihoods of our people, so much so that when His Excellency, Sen. Uba Sani visited, he specifically challenged the chairman of Kachia local government council to find a solution by next year. This is the first bold step towards the challenge.

“We believe this gesture will not only help restore dignified livelihoods to our people but also revitalise and strengthen the ginger value chain across our communities.
