Katsina Approves Major Projects in Health, Water

The Katsina State Executive Council (SEC), under the leadership of Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has approved a fresh round of people-focused projects aimed at improving lives and strengthening service delivery across the state.

Briefing journalists shortly after the Council’s 8th regular meeting, the Hon. Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr. Bala Salisu Zango, who presided over press briefing. Said Council gave approval for the upward review of contracts for the upgrade of Comprehensive Health Centres in Zango, Faskari, and Dandume to full-fledged General Hospitals.

“With this approval, contractors will now be remobilized back to site to resume and complete these vital health projects”.

The Radda led government has implemented the upward review of monthly allowances for Health Casual Workers across all the 34 local government areas of the stat from ₦10,000 to ₦20,000 per worker. This takes effect immediately.

Each local government currently engages 100 health casuals, making this intervention both far-reaching and timely.

These steps reflect the administration’s commitment to strengthening grassroots healthcare, motivating front-line workers, and ensuring more equitable access to services,” the Commissioner noted.

The Council also approved the repairs of fire service vehicles and the procurement of modern firefighting equipment, in a move to boost emergency response and public safety across the state.

On his part, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr. Bishir Gambo Saulawa, said Council approved the multiple water and sanitation projects under the World Bank–supported Sustainable Rural Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH) Programme.

These include the construction of small-town water schemes in 38 communities across Daura, Funtua, Batagarawa, and Baure LGAs – at a cost of ₦9.4 billion.

The drilling of 121 hand-pump boreholes, 60 motorized boreholes, and 60 WASH facilities across rural communities – at ₦4.2 billion.

The construction of 15 complete WASH facilities in schools and 18 in health centres across the state – totaling ₦2.3 billion.

A dedicated small-town water supply scheme at Babban Mutum in Baure LGAs, approved at ₦1.1 billion.

“These interventions will go a long way in ensuring safe and clean drinking water for our people, especially those in rural communities,” Dr. Saulawa noted.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Rural Development, Prof. Abdulhamid Ahmed, revealed that Council approved ₦500 million as counterpart funding for the second phase of the Northwest Prevention Facility Intervention Project, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

“This intervention is designed to support communities affected by insecurity. It will cover mass housing development, local economic recovery, capacity building for security operatives, and livelihood programs for displaced persons,” Prof. Abdulhamid explained.

The Commissioner expressed appreciation to development partners for their continued support, noting that Katsina remains fully committed to transparent and impactful collaboration.

All the approvals are in line with Governor Radda broader development blueprint, “Building Your Future,” which prioritizes inclusive growth, rural development, human capital improvement, and sustainable infrastructure.
