The Kaura Football Tournament, a test ground for budding football talent has kicked off in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi state capital.
The competition which has drawn 8 teams from the neighborhood of Filin Sukuwa, Bayan Kara, Bayan Oando and Mobil area attracted enthusiastic crowd of players and spectators at the Bayan Oando Play ground. It was sponsored by the Commissioner of Information and Culture Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK.
The Special Guest of Honor Dr Usman Sani Tunga who was represented at the opening ceremony congratulated the participating teams for being part of the tournament and urged the players to exhibit discipline, sportsmanship and should feel free to showcase their talents in a very responsible manner.

He noted that the essence of tournaments such as this are to provide platforms for young men to come together under very cordial and friendly terms to compete to enhance unity amongst them. He donated the sum of N200,000 to the organizing committee of the competition.
The sponsor of the tournament, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed explained that the Dr Nasir Idris administration has given top priority to youth development through many programs which included empowerment, job creation, education and sports development. He assured that the state government will continue to prioritize youth matters due to its belief in youth empowerment as a basis for the development of all sectors of the economy.
In the opening match, Awwal Koko United F.C. Learners defeated through penalty kicks after a full time of one-one draw.

Amongst the important personalities who graced the occasion are the Commissioner of Digital Economy Alhaji Ibrahim Sakaba, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information and Culture Alhaji Saidu Buhari Warra, Dr Haruna Sani who Chairs the Main Organizing Committee and General Manager Kebbi Radio Alhaji Abba Kakakin Zuru among many others.
