KTSG releases N23 billion for retirees

The sum of N23 billion has been released by the Government of Katsina State for the payment of retirement benefits.

This was disclosed by the Head of Service of the state, Falalu Bawale, dduring a one-day retreat for Heads of Service from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT, held in Katsina.

Bawale stated that the amount was disbursed over the last two years to cover retirees from the state civil service, local governments, and the Local Education Authorities (LEA).

He added that the screening of recently retired civil servants has commenced, with the aim of settling their gratuities promptly.

Bawale assured that the state government remains committed to the regular payment of pensions and gratuities to all retired workers.

“To motivate civil servants toward excellent service delivery, the government has introduced merit awards for deserving workers,” he said.

According to him, several outstanding civil servants were recently rewarded with cash prizes of N2 million each and brand-new cars.

He also revealed that the government has provided buses to the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to alleviate transportation challenges faced by workers.

Bawale commended the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for organizing the retreat, describing it as the first of its kind and calling for its continuity to foster the exchange of ideas and promote efficient service delivery across the states.

Earlier, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Wilson Jack, commended the state Heads of Service for their efforts to improve workers’ welfare. She also thanked the Katsina State Government for the warm reception given to retreat participants.

Esther announced that the Federal Government is planning to host an international civil service conference that will bring together participants from across the globe.

In his remarks while receiving the retreat participants, the Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Faruk Lawal Jobe, said the government has initiated several reforms to reposition the state’s civil service for improved performance.

Jobe assured that the state government is fully prepared to implement the decisions reached at the retreat to enhance the welfare of workers.
