Katsina State Department of Local Government Inspectorate has expressed concern over the failure of some Contractors to complete the construction of Staff Quarters at some PHCs which was awarded 10 months ago
The Special Adviser of the Department, Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana made this known on Monday while inspecting the project at MCHC Dannakola, PHC Sudduje and Mazoji as well as MCHC Kaita in Daura and Kaita LGAs respectively.
At Dannakola MCHC, the Special Adviser met the level of the construction work at only 15%, at Sudduje PHC the percentage was 50%, while the level of the construction of the SQ at Mazoji PHC was 60%
The Special Adviser also directed the Director Works of MLGCA to ensure the reconstruction of two Sock aways by the contractor at Kaita MCHC.
Hon. Lawal Safana who considered the negative actions as deliberate despite the payment of 60% to the Contractors, warned them to immediately complete such projects or be blacklisted.
He explained that the Department came on board after the projects were awarded after a year and noted that the project was not completed and some of them did not do anything on site despite the 60% payment given to the Contractors in about 8 local government areas.
The S A said “60% payment is even enough for any contractor that is serious to complete that project, because some contractors don’t need to be given any mobilisation because they have the capacity to do it “.
” But if you have shown lack of capacity even when you were paid 60% , then certainly you are not serious, you can not be one of our contractors, we can not go along with people that are not serious “. He added
The Special Adviser affirmed that the money belonged to the people of the state and the State Governor was sworn to protect and ensure prudence in the spending of public funds.
He therefore pointed out that the actions of his Department was a yardstick towards giving out projects to contractors that are serious.
