The National Assembly has been urged to reject attempts to ratify the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
The call was made by Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) saying President Bola Tinubu’s suspension of Fubara is illegal and a “dangerous affront” to the country’s democracy.
“A declaration of emergency does not automatically dissolve or suspend elected state governments. The constitution does not empower the president to unilaterally remove or replace elected officials—such actions amount to an unconstitutional usurpation of power and a fundamental breach of Nigeria’s federal structure,” NBA President Afam Osigwe said in a statement on Tuesday
