The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has strongly condemned Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s actions at the National Assembly, where he shut down proceedings and demanded the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The NYCN views Abaribe’s call for “total lawlessness” in the country as a threat to national security.
A press release signe and issued by Sharifudeen Ibrahim MuhammadN ational Publicity SecretaryNorthern Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN said Abaribe’s actions have been deemed a criminal act, and the NYCN is calling on the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to as a matter of urgency suspend and arrest the senator immediately.
The NYCN believes that Abaribe’s actions suggest he may have information about the sponsors of IPOB’s terrorist and terrorism activities in the Southeast.
Interestingly, Abaribe had previously commended the arrest of Simon Ekpa, a separatist agitator, in Finland, describing it as a positive step towards addressing unrest in Nigeria’s South-East region. This stance seems contradictory to his current demands, highlighting the complexity of the issue.
