Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has assured the residents of Bagiza and Rausa Kade communities in Arewa Local Government Area of strengthened security following an attack by cattle rustlers on Thursday, which claimed six lives, one in Bagiza and five in Rausa Kade.
During a condolence visit to the two villages on Saturday, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity, emphasizing the progress made in restoring peace, particularly in Kebbi South.
He noted that many of the challenges stemmed from the nefarious of criminals infiltrating from some neighbouring states.
“Since we assumed office, we have taken decisive steps to address insecurity, yielding significant progress.
“However, the lack of robust security measures in neighbouring states has made it easier for the criminals to cross over and attack our communities,” he decried.
Gov. Idris pledged to intensify security efforts in the area and directed the immediate installation of two motorized solar boreholes in Bagiza.
He also provided financial support, amounting to ₦2.5 million to the family of the victim and community leaders.
In Rausa Kade, where five people were killed, the Governor reiterated his administration’s zero- tolerance for such attacks.
“No government will sit back and allow its citizens to be killed by criminals.
“We will not tolerate these senseless killings,” he warned.
The Kauran Gwandu assured the residents that swift action would be taken upon his return to strengthen security in the area.
Additionally, he donated ₦7.5 million to the community and directed the completion of the Jumu’at Mosque within two weeks, along with the installation of a motorized solar borehole.
The local leaders, including the Village Head, Samaila Umar, and the Chief Imam, expressed gratitude for the governor’s visit and his commitment to addressing their needs.
Earlier, the Chairman of Arewa Local Government Area, Hon. Sani Aliyu Tela, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his visit and recounted their obnoxious ordeal sequel to the dastardly bandits’ attack on the villages.
“Your Excellency, the unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday night when the bandits invaded the two villages to rustle animals.
“They shot one person in Bagiza and killed five others in Rausa Kade.
“We appreciate your swift fatherly response and condolence visit
“I have assured the affected communities that as soon as I inform you, you would come, and here you are today to see them,” he said.
