The Kebbi State Government has refuted claims by the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) that the reticulation of the Yauri Water Works is the responsibility of the state government.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Yakubu Bala-Tafida, made this clarification while speaking to Journalists in his office in Birnin Kebbi.

Bala-Tafida observed that Yauri water project was a self-contained contract that covered overhead tanks, modern pumping machines, and a reticulation system.

He described HYPPADEC’s claim that the state government was responsible for the reticulation as “strange.”

The SSG emphasised that the contract should be fully implemented as originally planned and urged HYPPADEC to intensify efforts to complete the project to enable people of Yauri benefit from it.

Bala-Tafida also highlighted Kebbi State’s financial contributions to HYPPADEC’s sustainability, stressing that the state governmentHYPPADEC’s would continue to closely monitor the project’s progress.

It could be recalled that N-HYPPADEC through Yauri Area Manager, Abdulmalik Muhammad had attributed the lack of water supply from the newly rehabilitated Yauri Water Works to old underground water pipes that have been damaged for years and non functional for decades.

He said the responsibility for replacing the distribution pipes lies with the Kebbi State Government through the State Water Board.
