ABU honours Speaker, Minister, others at Diamond Jubilee

The Faculty of Education, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has planned to honour the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, Minister of State for Education: Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and other 55 distinguished personalities identified for various awards during the Diamond Jubile of the faculty scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday, 15th February, 2025.

 N,<<%%%%%%2The Faculty will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a lecture, homecoming, and presentation of awards to different individuals who contributed in one way or another towards its development.

This was contained in a programme released by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. H.I. Bayero.

Others to be honoured at the occasion include former Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency, Senator Umaru Tanko Almakura, and member House of Representatives (Sabon Gari Federal Constituency), Hon. Sadiq Ango.

Two former ABU University Librarians, Prof. Umar Ibrahim and Prof. Zakari as well as five erstwhile Directors of the Institute of Education namely Prof. Y.K. Kajuru, Prof. A.I. Kabido, Prof. Bashir A. Maina, and Prof. M.L. Amin, will equally receive awards.

Others to be presented with the awards include three former Directors of the School of Basic and Remedial Studies (SBRS), Funtua, Prof. I.K. Zubairu, Prof. Khalid Hamza and Prof. Balarabe Abdullahi.

Prof. Sani Sambo and Malam Abbas Aliyu all former Principals of Demonstration Secondary School, as well as two former Headmasters of ABU Staff School namely Malam Gimba Alfa and Malam Sani Mahmud have also been identified for the recognition.

Two former Deans of the Faculty, Prof. Tijjani Abubakar and Prof. Y.K. Kajuru are equally recipients of the awards.

Eight serving Vice-Chancellors of Federal, State, and Private Universities, 13 Provosts of various Colleges of Education, two Rectors of Polytechnics, Commissioners, Executive Secretaries of States Universal Basic Education, and local government Chairmen will also get the recognition.

The Diamond Jubilee lecture, entitled ‘Contributions of Faculty of Education to Nigeria’s Development from 1968 to Date’, will hold at the College of Postgraduate Studies Auditorium, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria tomorrow (Saturday, 15th February, 2025).

The lecture, which will be chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Raymond B. Bako, will be delivered by former Head of Department, Science Education, Prof. A.A.M. Shaibu.

His Highness, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, Emir of Zazzau, will be the royal father of the day with Dr. (Hon.) Abubakar Garba Matazu, former Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Education, as Special Guest of Honour.
