Uphold professionalism, rule of law

To safeguard policing for national progress and development, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has tasked new Constables to uphold professionalism, rule of law and respect citizens’ human rights.

The IGP spoke through Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 14, Basil O. Idegwu at the passing out parade of the new police recruits held at Police College Kaduna on Thursday.

He said, the new constables must as a matter of compulsion, guard against acts inimical to tarnishing the image of the Force as well as of bribe-taking, and other vices.

IGP Egbetokun then urged them to dedicate themselves to their duties because policing is a serious national business, thus they are enforcers of the law that holds the nation as one united indivisible entity within the ambit of the law.

He said, the trained personnel are part of the ten thousands police recruitment scheme of the Tinubu administration, hence the passing out was taking place concurrently at four Police Colleges across the country.

In his speech, the Chairman Police Service Commission, Retired DIG Hashimu Argungun who was represented by a Director in a Commission, Abubakar Aminu Malumfashi said, a constable is a dignified officer who deserves all dignity and respect, hence they must conduct themselves among the public with honour, dignity and prestige of their policing job.

The Chairman reminded them that they joined the Force at a period  the nation is facing security challenges ranging from banditry, kidnapping in the North, secessionist militancy in North East region, oil theft in the Niger Delta among others, and charged them to be vigilant, diligent and dedicated in discharge of their duties so that they could help in containing the tide and minimise acts of terrorism and other capital offences in the country.

He assured them the Commission’s readiness to ensure their protection of the welfare and well being as well as their promotion progression in the service, as a moral booster to discharge of their national duties.

Three trained constable personnel were awarded in various categories due to their outstanding performances during the six-month training.

Highlights of the event are the presentation of awards and certificate of excellence to outstanding performances during the training, match pass, group photographs and exchanges of pleasantries.
