In his pursuit of better road network for improved economic and sociopolitical development in Katsina State, Governor Dikko Umar Radda has flagged off three major road projects worth over N20 billion in Funtua Local Government Area.
The projects include the dualisation 5.9-kilometer Sokoto Road, which will cost N12.8 billion.awarded to MotherCat Construction Company Limited with completion period of 18 months..
Governor Radda also announced the reconstruction of the Katsina-Funtua dual carriageway, covering 3.9 kilometres, at a contract sum of N8 billion, with a 12-month completion timeline.
There is also the 1.2-kilometer Tsohuwar Kasuwa Road to be rehabilitated and upgraded costing over N637 million and expected to be completed within six months.
Gov Radda said “These projects mark the beginning of a transformation journey that will enhance our communities’ infrastructure and economic vibrancy,”
He emphasised that the roads would include solar-powered streetlights, and compensation for affected households and landowners would be provided soon.
Radda highlighted the significance of infrastructure as a foundation for progress, noting that the projects would improve connectivity, facilitate trade, and enhance the ease of business.
“This is not just about building roads; it is about creating an environment that fosters economic growth and development,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Mr Jack Najal, managing director of Mother Cat Construction Company, pledged to deliver high-quality work within the stipulated time with support from the government and local communities.
Alhaji Sambo Idris-Sambo, the Sarkin Maskan Katsina and District Head of Funtua, expressed gratitude for the long-awaited projects.
“The people of Funtua have been yearning for such development for many years, and we are thankful it has finally begun,” he said, assuring the government and contractor of his people’s support.
In addition to the Funtua projects, Governor Radda also flagged off the construction of the 52-kilometer Kunduru-Radda-Tsakasa-Ganuwa road, spanning Charanchi and Kankia LGAs.
Furthermore, he also commissioned the N3.5 billion dualised Kofar Soro-Kofar Guga road project
