Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved payment of N75,000 as minimum wage to workers in the state civil service, directing the commissioner of finance and Accountant General to commences the immediate payment.
He approved the new package while signing it into law at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi amidst of leaders of national trade union led by NLC, President, Mr Joe Ajeoro.
He said ” Today, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 have joined Other governors in paying new minimum wage to workers of N75,000 instead of N70, 000 to Kebbi State civil servants beginning from October “
He added that being a unionist, he had has wanted to be first in approving the new package but, was not possible following the inability of the committee set up to submit report until today.
According to the governor, his administration has paid 2023 and 2024 leave grant to all categories of civil servants in the state.
He noted that if, government will always pay salaries every month at and when due why can it not pay minimum wage.
In his response, the NLC President, Mr Joe Ajeoro commended the governor for the timely approval of the new package to Kebbi State workers.
