The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a revision of the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), with effect from July 24, 2024.

This was revealed  by the Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC), Ekpo Nta, during a press briefing on Tuesday in Abuja.
Nta disclosed that President Bola Tinubu had assented to the revision after the National Assembly forwarded the Bill for approval.
He emphasized the importance of the new structure in addressing pay disparities within the federal public service.
“Any federal public service, whether self-funded or treasury funded, that has not received a circular to this effect, specifically from the NSIWC, should contact it for further directives.
“This is to avoid an uncoordinated implementation which has the tendency to destroy the existing salary relativities in the federal public service,” Nta said during the briefing.
He further assured that additional directives would be issued to clarify how the revised salary structure would benefit pensioners, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, and interns, ensuring a comprehensive rollout across all levels of public service.
The revision also affects other salary structures within the Nigerian public sector, including the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), the Consolidated Universities Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), and the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure II (CONTISS II).
Additional salary templates that have been revised include the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), and the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS). This update will also cover critical sectors such as health, education, and security services.
Nta highlighted the importance of these revisions in ensuring fairness and transparency across the various public service sectors.
“This is consequent to the enactment of the NSIWC Amendment Act 2024 and the Memorandum of Understanding reached by the committee on consequential adjustments in salaries arising from the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act, 2024,” he explained.
The revision follows negotiations between the Federal Government and the Trade Union sides of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council on September 20.
The adjustments are seen as a response to the growing demand for fairer wages, particularly in light of the recent amendments to the National Minimum Wage Act.
