The Coordinator of Joint Border Patrol Team (JBPT) North West Zone Sector 4 of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Aminu Abubakar Danmusa has sought the help of the traditional rulers to fight smuggling in the Zone.
He made the plea yesterday when he led members of his team on a courtesy visit to the emirs of Gwandu and Argungu, Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar and Muhammad Sama’ila Mera at their Palaces in Gwandu and Argungu emirate councils respectively.
At Gwandu emirate in Birnin Kebbi, Coordinator, Danmusa told Emir Muhammad Bashar that they were in his palace to pay homage and seek his blessings and assistance by mobilising his subjects to understand the dangers of smuggling illicit drugs and other prohibited contrabands.
” Some people misunderstood Customs job. Unless our fathers, who are together with them, enlighten our activities so that the menace of smuggling activities will reduce or eradicated completely ” Danmusa said.
He added that Kebbi State was among the seven states in the North West zone bordering Benin and Niger Republics, as such there is need of collaborative efforts between Customs and other security agencies to fight the influx of contrabands in the zone and the country.
At the palace of emir of Argungu, the JBPT Coordinator extended similar request of the need for traditional rulers to assist customs in the fight against smuggling activities in the border areas of Kebbi State.
In their responses, Emir of Gwandu and chairman of the Kebbi State Council of chiefs, Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar assured the coordinator of the JBPT of their full support and cooperation towards the team’s mission and objectives.
The two emirs however said they would soon create a synergy to enlighten their subjects on the activities of Customs Service in the country.
They expressed their delights for the visit and urged JBPT to always exercise their civic responsibilities under the ambit of law in dealing with smugglers.
