DESERTIFICATION: Kebbi plants 100,000 trees

The Government of KEBBI State has mapped out plans to plant 100,000 trees across the 21 local government areas of the state in order to address environmental challenges in the state.

The KEBBI State Commissioner for environmental and mineral resources,  Musa Muhammad Tungulawa disclosed this yesterday to Journalists during an interview in his office in Birnin Kebbi.

He said the tree planting exercise has already begun on the major streets and highways in Birnin Kebbi metropolis as well as the new renovated state secretariat.

The Commissioner also said five hectares of land were allocated in each of the four emirates councils in the state for the plantation of dates trees to boost economy.

” We have started in Gwandu and Yauri and later on to Zuru  and Argungu emirates ” Tungulawa said.

The Commissioner added that his ministry has raised enough variety of seedlings after nursing them  and will be provided two to each household and office for planting across the state.

He emphasised that If these trees are given adequate care and nursing by the beneficiaries the environment will have a good shelter where people could live comfortably.

He called on the people to give the exercise maximum support

towards achieving Governor Nasir Idris’s led administration in providing conducive environment for socioeconomic activities to flourish in the state.
