In its efforts to boost rural water supply, sanitation and hygiene to rural communities, Wateraid Nigeria in collaboration with FCT Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Directorate, was on a sensitization visit to Dnako Community of Sabongari in Bwari Area council.
During the consultative session, WaterAid pledged to work with the community leaders and members in addressing the water challenges as part of WaterAid Nigeria’s Ongoing Cummins Inc funded “improving access to Water Sanitation and Hygiene project in Bwari Area council. She explained WaterAid’s new strategic focus with the leaders, and highlighted their role in the operation and maintenance of the water facility that will be constructed in the community.
The water facility will be constructed in a strategic location and reticulated so as to serve the entire community. The aim is to ensure that clean water is available to the community and in that way Hygiene and sanitary/ Sanitation practices are fully adopted and put in practice by members of the community.
While addressing the community members that turned out for the event, Water Aid Nigeria spokespersons, Ms Idowu Adebayo explained the significance of having clean water and maintaining hygienic environment for healthy living.
She further explained that Water Aid Nigeria is a nongovernmental organisation but collaborates with government agencies to transform the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people by expanding and improving access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene.
She therefore urged the community to take appropriate steps to.maitain and
safeguard the project from vandalisation.
The community members were visibly elated for the good news of new borehole coming to it courtesy of Water Aid and RUWASSA of the FCT..
FCT RUWASSA is overseeing all WaterAid activities within the community, forming WASHCOM teams while Bwari Area Council is the overall overseer of all the projects, they assist in bringing FCT RUWASSA and the development partners together with the community
