Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has demonstrated high commitment to addressing challenges posed by climate change and therefore requires the understanding and cooperations of stakeholders in climate and environmental sectors.

The observation was made by Hon Yusuf Amoke, Special Assistant to Governor Uba Sani on climate change in a roundtable discussion with members of Arewa Online Media Publishers in Kaduna, Saturday.
Recall that Governor Uba Sani was the first state governor in Northern Nigeria to create an office of a special assistant on climate change to generate information on climate so that government can be efficiently and effectively advised on how to address  climate change challenges.
Hon Amoke said Kaduna State was effectively and visibly represented at the COP28 conference in Dubai and was able to learn and benefit a lot from the conference.
Our of the resolutions from the conference Nigeria pledged to reduce gas emissions from fossil fuels by emphasizing use of renewable energy and discourage indiscriminate felling of trees and and engaged in aggressive campaign for more efficient and effective tree planting.
Hon Amoke said Kaduna State stands to benefit a lot from funds raised by the countries in the northern hemisphere who emit more than 90 per cent of the gas that threatens the climate.
The funds would enable nations and sub nations to engage in activities that would reduce gas emissions and mitigate some of the attendant effects.
Currently, a bill on climate change is before the Kaduna State House of Assembly to provide legal framework for climate change activities in Kaduna State. The bill, when passed into law will provide opportunities for stakeholders to key into climate change programmes in the state.
Hon Amoke said they are collaborating some civil society organisations to educate and enlighten the public on the need to join the campaign for more friendly climate by embracing the crusade for renewable energy.
He therefore urged the public to show interest and concern on climate change as it is global matter that affects all.
