The kidnappers of the 16 abducted residents of Gonin Gora, a suburb of Kaduna metropolis have reportedly demanded a ransom of N40 trillion, 11 Hillux and 150 motorcycles before releasing the victims.
The kidnap incident on Wednesday, February 28 in an attack on Gonin-Gora community, located in the Chikun Local Government area of Kaduna,
Following the abduction, hundreds of youths from the community staged a protest by blocking the Abuja-Kaduna highway to denounce the attack.
Community leaders revealed that the bandits issued the outrageous ransom demand, which exceeds the entire national budget for the year 2024, just four days after the abduction of 287 school children in Kuriga, another community in Chikun.
John Yusuf, a community leader in Gonin-Gora, expressed the impossibility of meeting the exorbitant demands, emphasizing the dire situation faced by the community and called for government intervention, urging the establishment of a military base in the area to counter the activities of the criminals, who exploit the vast bushes bordering the community and neighboring Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
Yusuf highlighted the challenges faced by the military in responding to distress calls promptly, citing the remote location of the community and the swift movements of the bandits.
