Hezbollah, Israel crises in dangerous escalation

Tension has escalated between Hezbollah and Israel as  Hezbollah has claimed the responsibility for launching rockets at three Israeli military sites near the border with Lebanon on Wednesday.

Al Jazeera has reported that the rockets were  targeted at Israeli army positions in Kfar Qila, a village close to the frontier.

Hezbollah said in a statement that the attack was a response to the Israeli air strikes on southern Lebanon earlier that day, which it called a “dangerous escalation”.

The recent exchange of fire was the first serious cross-border incident since 2019, when Hezbollah fired anti-tank missiles at an Israeli army base and a vehicle. Israel responded with artillery and helicopter attacks.

The latest flare-up comes amid rising tensions in the region over Israel’s ground invasion of Gaza after Hamas, which controls the Strip, launched an attack on Israel on October 7th, 2023, killing over 1,000 people and taking more than 200 hostages.

Hezbollah, which fought a month-long war with Israel in 2006, has said that it is ready to confront any Israeli aggression and defend Lebanon’s sovereignty and dignity while continuing to support the Palestinians in Gaza.
