The Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas has claimed responsibility for two attacks on Israeli forces in the Zeitoun neighbourhood of Gaza City on Friday, Al Jazeera has reported.

A statement released by the group said Palestinian fighters targeted an Israeli military vehicle with a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) and then launched a rocket at a group of soldiers who were hiding inside a building.

The statement further said the fighters fired a Yasin-105 shell, a locally made projectile, at an Israeli tank that came to the scene to back up the soldiers.

The Qassam Brigades said the attacks were part of the ongoing resistance against the Israeli occupation and aggression in Gaza.

There was no immediate confirmation or comment from the Israeli military on the alleged attacks.

The Zeitoun neighbourhood is located in the eastern part of Gaza City, near the border with Israel. It has been the site of several clashes and airstrikes in the past.
