Abu Obeida, the spokesman for Hamas’s Qassam Brigades has made a series of bold claims about the group’s achievements in the past 100 days of fighting against Israel, Al Jazeera has reported.
A prerecorded message that was broadcasted to mark 100 days since the war in Gaza began. Abu Obeida said the group had “destroyed or disabled 1,000 Israeli military vehicles, and carried out hundreds of operations against the occupation”.
He also said that all the weapons used by the Qassam Brigades were ones that they had made themselves, without relying on any external sources.
It was Abu Obeida’s first appearance in person since November 23, when he announced the death of the Qassam Brigades’ commander, Mohammed Deif, in an Israeli airstrike.
Abu Obeida’s message came amid a surge of violence in the region, as Israel and Hamas exchanged rocket fire and airstrikes, resulting in dozens of casualties on both sides.
The Qassam Brigades are the armed wing of Hamas, the Islamist movement that controls the Gaza Strip, a coastal enclave that has been under a blockade by Israel and Egypt since 2007.
Hamas and Israel have fought three wars since 2008, the last one in 2014, which ended with a fragile ceasefire that has been repeatedly violated by both sides
