Mayen Etim. Ibrahima Yakubu honoured for environment reporting

Mayen Etim, an Environmental reporter with DailyNewsPrecise an online medium based in Kaduna was honoured with Best Environmental Journalist of the Year 2023. while Ibrahima Yakubu, a DW Radio reporter received the award of Best Science/Climate Journalist of the year 2023.

The awards were given by Teku Int’l and Agro Allied Services Ltd in Kaduna.

The event, organized by Teku Int’l and Agro Allied Services Ltd, was the 6th graduation ceremony of training on Horticulture and Modern Farming for 50 pupils drawn from ten schools in the Kaduna Metropolitan city.

Speaking shortly after the award presentation, a guest at the event, Pastor Yohanna Buru, commended Teku Int’l and Agro Allied Services Ltd. for taking the bull by the horn

in catching the pupils young and nurturing them in the science of horticulture.

He called on Kaduna State and the Federal Governments to honour the organization for the excellent works it has been doing. “Teku Int’l and Agro Allied Services Ltd has turned the environment in Kaduna state greener and we are happy for what it has been doing. The organization should be supported and encourage,” he urged.

Pastor Buru, advised the organization to extend it services to capture not only the pupils but students in secondary and tertiary Institutions, noting that it is what is needed in the country today.

“We are now in a supposedly cold season but everywhere is hot. So, we need trees, not only in Kaduna or northern Nigeria, but Africa and the world at large,” he added.

Another guest at the event, Shiekh Dr. Ahmed Gumi, noted that the enlistment of children for training on environment with emphasis on plants and the importance of farms to humanity is most encouraging.

According to him, it is highly commendable that the children are now tutored to look at the environment, society and not just to think about money.

Shiekh Gumi averred that important programmes such as what Teku Int’l is doing should be encourage by all and sundry.

He urged the Government to come in and assist like minded organizations in teaching children the importance of sanitation, clean environment, tree planting and other agricultural activities.

Earlier, the Anguwan Sarki Branch Manager of Teku Int’l and Agro Allied Services Ltd, Aminu Safiu, informed that the programme is to  inculcate the idea of agriculture into the young minds to ensure they grow up with the mindset of its importance to humanity.

He explained that the 50 pupils undergone six weeks training on plantings, introduction to different types of soils, how to put seedlings in the soil, how to water and take care of them.

He said the ten schools include; Al Hikmah Islamic Academy, Al Faruq Islamic Academy, Assiddeeq Islamic Comprehensive School, LEA Sultan Bello, and LEA Ungwan Sarki.

Others are: Abba Abdulkadir Memorial School, Madarasatul Ishrafiddeen, Solid Academy, Ulumul Qur’an, and Overcomers International School.

Highlights of the event include awards to individuals and organizations, while certificates were presented to participating schools and pupils.
